About the School
Trip Hedrick’s SwimAmerica Cyclone Swim School was established in 1993 and is Iowa’s first licensed SwimAmerica school. SwimAmerica’s goal is “to teach America to swim for health, safety, fun, and fitness.” SwimAmerica is an international, state of the art, learn to swim program that operates in nine countries. SwimAmerica believes that a student should not only be taught to swim but should be taught to swim well. Unlike most traditional swim lesson programs that require a student to remain in a particular level for the duration of the session, SwimAmerica employs a station method of teaching that enables students to progress at their own rate based upon skill attainment levels. Our unique award system rewards a student each time a new level is attained. SwimAmerica Schools operate in conjunction with The American Swimming Coaches Association. The Cyclone Swim School LLC is operated by Trip Hedrick, former Head Men’s Swimming Coach at Iowa State University.

Participation Requirements
In our traditional SwimAmerica sessions, we will accept children that turn 5 by April 15th, 2010. We expect our enrollees to be ready and willing to positively cooperate in our structured lesson setting. If you are in doubt of your child’s readiness to begin our program, we believe it is best to wait.

Trained Staff
The school is staffed with highly qualified and trained instructors who provide quality swim lessons with care, compassion, and good humor.

Location
The SwimAmerica Cyclone Swim School is conducted at the Forker Building pool on the east side of the Iowa State Campus.

Instructor to Student Ratio and Class Size
To ensure the most ideal teaching conditions we maintain an instructor to student ratio of no more than 1:3. Each class will be limited to 12 students minimum and 22 students maximum. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Your Investment in Swimming Lessons
We believe that your investment of both time and money in your child’s swimming should be a wise one. We also believe that at the completion of a lesson progression, your child should have as many options in aquatics as possible. Whether it be basic survival skills, lifelong aquatic comfort in recreational aquatic activities, a lifetime of productive aquatic fitness, or even possible participation in a competitive swimming program, your child should learn from those that can best accommodate these potential options. We are confident that our “goal oriented” program and motivational instructors provide the best value in your swimming investment.

Cost
Cost of SwimAmerica is $78 per session. A one-time, new participant Program Initiation Fee of $25 is also required for each participant. This fee includes a complimentary SwimAmerica T-shirt and the program award system.

Refund Policy
Due to our limited enrollment, only major medical emergency situations will be considered for a refund. Any withdrawal from an enrolled class will be treated as a cancellation and is not refundable. Refunds will not be given for absence due to illness or other conflicts.

Private Lessons
We also offer evening private lessons for swimmers age 3 years old through adult. Please reference “Private Lessons” for details.
